participatory artwork that channels the spirit of the city of Chengdu. With music, color, and motion tied to local rhythms, it offers an interactive experience across generations. The artwork is constantly in motion, boasting both motorized and wind-powered elements, creating a sense of energy that mirrors the busy streets below IFS Chengdu’s expansive rooftop. Its horn-like forms transmit sound and invite light and shadow to follow the pace and movement of the viewer. With two seesaws and an interactive sound modulation system, the piece is playful, but is only completed once people engage with it. IFS Chengdu, a top luxury shopping destination in China, can see up to 110,000 visitors a day.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Inspired by Chengdu's delicate balance between modernity and traditionalism, Wade and Leta drew from Chengdu’s culture and symbolism—especially the circle, found everywhere from the Golden Sun Bird to Anshun Bridge to the city’s circular layout with IFS being in the center of the city. The circular motifs contrast with the geometric, contemporary shapes to create a visual juxtaposition that symbolizes the continuity and fusion of ancient and modern life.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; This piece marks many firsts for Wade and Leta: their first large-scale outdoor artwork in China (ranging over 7m in height), and their first sound collaboration with renowned music producer Eric Lau, who created an evolving soundtrack based on the city’s energy based on tones taken directly from every day life within Chengdu. The site also featured a beautiful sound installation by local artist Huang Jin, with 8 tones of Chengdu woven throughout the experience. Visitors of the site are encouraged to manipulate the auditory ambiance with a MIDI controller embedded into the structure. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; The work creates a space where history and contemporary life converge—where movement becomes a language of reflection. Shapes shift and spin, echoing the rhythm of Chengdu itself—its rich past swirling into its vibrant present. But unlike most clouds which are fleeting, this one is here to stay permanently. In collaboration with Studio RENZ+OEI—our neighbors, friends, and finally collaborators—The Cloud is a breath of fresh air (as well as art and architecture) in the historical City Hall Park.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; The concept emerged through conversation between Jean and Gabriel, who run RENZ+OEI, a design-build and fabrication studio based in our mutual area of Brooklyn. Though an initial sculpture project didn’t materialize, a friendship did, leading to this exciting Vermont venture. Well seasoned with projects scaled large and small, Jean and Gabriel were invited by The City of Burlington to submit a proposal for a kiosk and wanted to treat this design brief as a sculptural work of art, so they brought us on board to help develop an unconventional idea for the historical City Hall Park area.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; We had been experimenting with ways to reinterpret clouds graphically and shared some initial sketches with Jean and Gabriel, who were immediately drawn to the idea. Clouds, ever-changing and ephemeral, offer a unique architectural perspective by embodying fluidity, lightness, and impermanence. As natural forms that constantly shift and adapt, they challenge traditional architectural notions of stability and rigidity. Incorporating the essence of clouds into design creates spaces that feel open, dynamic, and free, encouraging interaction between light, air, and structure. Formally, clouds symbolize a break from the static, inviting imagination, movement, and fostering awe and reflection in those who experience the space.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; The Cloud is a permanent vending space within the park and has become an anchor location&nbsp; for a local Vermont-based food vendor. Created exclusively for the underground exhibition venue of Moon Art Night Shimokitazawa, this work explores the changing light of neon LEDs, bringing life to inorganic spaces with vibrant, explosive forms.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; By placing bright, pulsating neon LEDs in a dark basement, these works create a luminous utopia in an otherwise deserted space, transforming it into a canvas of vibrant energy. The neon LEDs invite a shift in perspective, away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo's cityscape, paying tribute to the city's never-ending nightlife.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Through the interplay of light and dark, they invite a reconsideration of the value and potential of spaces that are often overlooked.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; As with Wade and Leta's other works, this work is enjoyable for everyone. From 13,000 discarded cases, we were able to make the @casetify Rest Stop. Through a process of grinding these pieces down to create a new substrate, a table and chair set was birthed. We wanted to create a space that could be utilized by the local New York Community to do everything from writing an email to sketching your dreams. For our first solo show in China, we wanted to throw everything at the wall and make a Big Bang! To embark on a creative journey that pays homage to the vividly explosive animations that once enthralled their youthful imaginations. The works for the show delve into the dynamic world of graphical explosions, seamlessly blending the nostalgia of animated television shows from our past with a contemporary artistic perspective. Through the use of vibrant colors, intricate details, and a touch of whimsical chaos we invite viewers to explore the exhilarating energy that animated our formative years.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; In these works, explosions cease to be mere bursts of motion and color; they transform into vessels for storytelling that encapsulate the essence of their favourite childhood shows. Each stroke of the brush, shape, and digital manipulation of color and form is a tribute to the unrivalled excitement they felt watching heroes and villains clash in a kaleidoscope of visual spectacle.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; We wanted to make works in mediums that would not only capture the explosive visual impact but also the emotions, dreams, and aspirations that these animated narratives awakened within us as children.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Our ultimate intention is to not merely to replicate the explosive scenes they remember, but to reinterpret them through a contemporary lens, infusing them with newfound depth and relevance.
