I had a lovely time putting together this ensemble for the Tate in spirit of the World Goes Pop exhibition on view now in London! It is inspired by Ushio Shinohara's painting, “Doll Festival,” from 1966.
The imagery is constructed from elements such as sticks, styrofoam balls, and painted foam, eluding to a physicality that is created from Shinohara's color choices and simplified shapes.

Born from our desire to collaborate, Complements is a project by my partner Wade Jeffree and myself, and it explores our complementary relationship through portrait photography. It is a collaboration which combines our strengths in design without compensating our apt sense of humor, and explores our relationship as well as the universal strangeness of love. Poking fun at the glut of cheesy couple photos honored by “listicles”, the resulting portraits are indeed surreal, and occasionally quite suggestive.
We collaborated with GF Smith to create a beautiful book that could document our series in glossy, vibrant archive-quality photographic prints with a hand-embossed spine and back cover. The cover was coated in googly eyes to mimic one of our first Complements portraits, and the lay-flat binding allows each image to be admired without hassle of holding down the pages. Each page is an 820gsm pageweight and feels very satisfying to touch. The book was entirely hand-crafted in Hull, England, using the finest materials combined with the latest technology.

It began as a typical morning conversation between graphic designers Leta Sobierajski and Wade Jeffree—a couple living in Brooklyn who share a taste for quirky aesthetics and crisp design. Wade, a designer and art director, and Leta, a multi-disciplinary designer who works with photography, video, and digital, wanted a collaboration that could combine the couples’ strengths in design without compensating their apt sense of humor. What evolved was Complements, a reinterpretation of those hilariously cringeworthy couple portraits that circulate the internet—a way to reveal the humor and romance behind their relationship. Using their eye for bold colors and love for juxtaposing inanimate objects, the couple have updated the antiquated portraits into the world of contemporary design, fueling a bizarrely sweet and often grotesque self portrait series. Complements explores Leta and Wade’s relationship, as well as the universal strangeness of love, highlighting their individual talents that complement (and compliment!) each other. The project as a whole is sharp, creative, and light-hearted, highlighting a stunning dynamic between the real-life artist couple and their shared passion for unique design. Print All Over Me is an online platform for real-world collaboration and creation. They provide the tools that allow anyone to create, share, own, and produce their designs by uploading artwork that can be applied to seasonal collections of clothing and objects.
In August 2014, PAOM invited me to collaborate with them and be featured as an artist on their site. After painting my patterns and specifying the garments for each, I worked with a team to shoot a series of images that PAOM could use for their website, lookbook, and social media outreach.

Ogilvy & Mather reached out to me to help develop the imagery for the launch of IBM's Chef Watson app, where cognitive computing helps you discover recipes that never existed before. They encouraged me to work with the craziest combinations I could think of while keeping the imagery in a four-color primary color palette. The header image covered IBM's Facebook and Twitter headers, while the three animated gifs were released a day apart to help introduce the app through Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook alike.
Captions created prompts for users, such as "What's your spin on bacon & dragon fruit?" and "3 eggs. 2 pinches of coriander. 1 cognitive system." It was a fun, messy, and somewhat stinky project that left me sticky and smelling like ketchup.
